Assess the categorisation and treatment of liabilities in the yearly report. 4. Remark on the connection between the measurementof liabilities and choice valuable data with models from your chose yearly report. Answer: Unique The examination subject of the meaning of liabilities and their estimation with respect to an ASX recorded organization Myers Holdings Limited has been introduced to us for the Summer Semester 14-15. In this, the whole task has been isolated into four unique segments, wherein the initial segment of the task takes into account the need of understanding the meaning of liabilities as introduced by the Australian Accounting Research Foundation (PSASB and AASB 1998). The second piece of the task manages the point by point conversation about liabilities and the current issues with its estimation, with worry to the current IASB system (Bullen, Johnson and Crook 2005). As we go on further into the investigation of this paper, we see that the third piece of the task totally takes into being the characterization and treatment of liabilities from any organization recorded in the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). We have chosen the organization of Myers Holdings Limited (Read as MYR on ASX) for the investigation of the characterization and treatment of liabilities from the downloaded report of 2014 (ASX 2014). The fourth and the last piece of the task spin around the connections between estimation of liabilities and choice helpful data alongside chose models from the 2014 Annual Report of the Myers Holdings Limited. By and large, the task endeavors at conveying the idea of liabilities, their estimation, introduction and utility for the key officials of any organization in settling and finishing up choices about critical business activities. The peruser goes to the gathered information on what are liabilities according to the Australian Accounting Research Foundation, and by what means can the applicable information on estimation be utilized to the comprehension of the realities referenced in the 2014 Annual Report of Myers Holdings Limited. Presentation Myer Holdings Limited has been into activities for over 100 years in Australia, into the style, design and way of life items. It is supposed to be the biggest departmental store in the whole sub-mainland of Australia and is said to have produced an astounding $3.1 billion turnover in 2014, and is the biggest departmental retail chain across Australia with more than 68 retail outlets and the latest endeavor into the computerized and portable stages with the transformation in web. 11 center items are offered under the umbrella of this brand, which incorporate any semblance of menswear, ladies wear, way of life items, etc. The order and treatment of liabilities in the 2014 monetary record of the Myer Holdings company has additionally been investigated in this, and a little clarification given for the equivalent. The meaning of liabilities and count of liabilities are critical in the comprehension of the business choices which Myer attempts for undertaking right business choices. Certain issues with estimation of liabilities with the setting to the IASB system, which is still under the production of gauges from the 1989 structure it had made at first. At last, the foundation of the connection between the estimation of obligation and the business dynamic has been taken in thus. Body (1) In the most least complex of definitions, liabilities allude to the future penances of monetary advantages that is necessarily committed on the concerned element to different elements in a similar business line, as a result of any past business exchange or past occasions (PSASB and AASB 1998). The Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB) of the Australian Accounting Research Foundation (AARF) and the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) couldn't have had the option to characterize liabilities in any less complex language. Any substance so as to maintain its business tasks are required to work it under the credit model separated from the contribution of fluid money (Department of Economic and Community Development 2010). This is along these lines, considering the dynamic turnaround time organizations are embracing nowadays, with thought to fast globalization occurring over the world. Organizations nowadays face the chance of dynamic development openings and consequ ently they are eager to work under the thought of providing credits, for a specific timeframe, either on great confidence, or to benefit the current business activities. These exchanges happen using a credit card and consequently this pivots to be the meaning of risk (Baskerville 2011). In totality, there are three various types of liabilities: Current Liabilities Non-current liabilities Unforeseen liabilities Coming up next are the different sorts of medicines to the previously mentioned kinds of liabilities. 1. These are transient credits or liabilities which must be paid inside a time of their introduction to the world. They are reflected under the present liabilities leader of the liabilities segment of the monetary record of the organization. On the fruitful installment of these transient commitments, they are discounted the companys books of records, and the parity is charged at that point. Instances of current liabilities are installment because of providers, gathered expenses, lease and intrigue, and gainfulness appeared and gathered ahead of time. 2. The instances of long haul liabilities are contracts sum on property, bank credits and rent commitments for vehicles or any significant business types of gear. These are additionally composed under the drawn out commitment headings of the liabilities area and for the most part take over one year to be paid off (The State of Queensland 2015). 3.The unexpected liabilities are the companys back-up assets for a crisis circumstance like a body of evidence law recorded against the organization or any natural claims slapped over the business tasks of the organization. Such unexpected liabilities are anyway not noted under the liabilities (short or long haul) area of the Balance Sheet of the organization. By and large, organizations make a different reserve for the equivalent, and incorporate the equivalent under the Notes segment of the Balance Sheet of the organizations. (2) It must be noticed that after the production of the business, benefits must be earned through exchanges, and notwithstanding, simultaneously, procuring these benefits require certain capital sources of info. On occasion, when the business houses are unequipped for embeddings a different store for the equivalent, business take products from the providers using a loan consequently of favor of postponed installments through money, kind, or business merchandise (Baskerville 2011). Alongside the proprietors finance (value finance), the business additionally gets certain different assets from providers and loan bosses for the acquisition of benefits with which the business is expected to proceed. These are named as liabilities for any business house. The idea of risk originate from the bookkeeping substance suspicion and under such a supposition, it is thought about that the business element is totally a different element and all exchanges of the business are indistinguishably extraordinary and separate from the individual exchanges of the proprietors of these organizations. Through such a supposition, the believability lies in the genuine impression of the budgetary subtleties and realities figures of any business-house at some random purpose of time (Baskerville 2011). Talking about the acknowledgment of an obligation, the accompanying realities can be advanced. A risk is possibly perceived if and just if the accompanying conditions are met: 1.There is a clear future remuneration of financial advantages so as to compensate for the present received rewards by the organization as far as merchandise or administrations, at all be the situation (IFAC 1996). 2.Secondly, the characteristic of the computation of the risk sum must be reasonable and solid. This implies the components of expansion and other such applicable viewpoints must be dealt with before the introduction of such a risk (Australian Accounting Research Foundation 1995). Talking about the IASB Framework, it must be referenced and mulled over that so as to perceive a risk, it doesn't need to be a commitment which is expected according to request, instead of that, it stands apart to be under a structure wherein, it gets due when the commitment emerges (ACCA 2011). Accordingly, under the given structures of IASB, it is compulsory for the acknowledgment of obligation to raise and come out as reflected under the fiscal reports when it has emerged. In spite of the fact that this comes out to mirror the valid and genuine impression of the budgetary strength of any business, here and there, it turns out to be antagonistically forceful with the money related wellbeing of the business and the substance may not get positive surveys from reviewers and outsider customers who are even enigmatically intrigued by the business tasks and consequences of the element in concern (Lott, Knubley and Clark 2013). In this way, for example, IAS 37 (International Accounting St andard 37) of Provisions, Continent Liability and Contingent Assets is altogether in accordance with the IASB Framework and would require for the acknowledgment of the decommissioning cost of the apparatus oils in future. When the apparatus oil areas are chosen and the gear methodology starts, the expense for decommissioning the equivalent is emerged simultaneously, and reflected as a non-current risk in the books of records of the concerned organization, at the expense of the current estimation of cash (Whittington 2008). Another main consideration which truly influences

Correspondence - Essay Example Adolescents have exceptional characteristics which impact how the message ought to be conveyed to them, these include: poor relational abilities especially the listening part of it. Most individuals from the gathering can't tune in to and appreciate court orders about conduct. A few adolescents, particularly those in work ought to have their boss being a piece of the arrangement, particularly by upholding consistence (Mark and Gamez-Rugama, 2015). Other adolescent guilty parties don't understand what is expected of them because of deficient instruction. In that capacity, utilizing basic language for correspondence will improve their consistence with the guidelines of commitment. There are numerous potential difficulties in conveying the message to adolescents, these include: initially, a negative demeanor received by adolescents seeing their neighbors or government operators as too tough and never going to budge on their pulverization to tune in to or follow their orders. Furthermore, deficient training and information in adolescents as a rule entangle their comprehension of what is directly for them and their abstract considerations (Haggard, 2014). Ultimately, their young cerebrums and feeble character may make pointless interruptions as well as absence of consistency in their reactions to questions or issues coordinated to them, thus their unpredictable conduct. These shortcomings require consistent help to them and observing of their moves, which would be expensive if not unrealistic (Haggard, 2014). As Mark and Gamez-Rugama (2015) stated, I would modify my methodology in the video by receiving easier, progressively customized correspondence techniques, for example, referencing names. I would likewise: gain by the method of correspondence which is best for every person, for example, utilizing motions or non-verbal styles for incapacitated adolescents; use correspondence procedures which manufacture viable associations with adolescents so they can build up a sentiment of

IT Emerging Technology Free-Sample for Studentes-Myassignmenthelp

Question: Talk about an IT Leader. Answer: Presentation The Adventures of an IT Leader The rising innovation is an assorted type of conventional innovation that is right now utilized by various business associations to advance progressive changes which are important to increase upper hands structure the serious commercial center. It likewise assists with changing the customary business functionalities and activities. This as well as, the essential component of business changed the type of authority and customary acts of administrative jobs and expert vocation likewise (Drachmann, Freisner Muller, 2014). In the course of the last a few decades the impact of developing advancements in the business associations can't be ignored by the business the board specialists. The most generally utilized progressed computerized innovations are distributed computing, portable applications, business knowledge and apply autonomy. The hope of the general public is likewise particularly accommodating and significant for the business benefits. The business associations and society both re quire reprogrammable and multifunctional controller configuration approach (Ti Singh, 2013). Examination, information and system every one of these parts are interrelated to one another and so as to build up a total implementable innovative arrangement these segments are required to be accumulated together. As per my conclusion the current blog passage process utilized by the business association is sufficient productive in this way, they need not to roll out any such improvements in that procedure. Indeed, on the off chance that the blog section brought down, at that point the open consideration will raise quickly. This as well as the blog creators would likewise be contrarily influenced by this framework. It may likewise cause cacophony between the IT office and the other branch of the business association (Grant, 2016). In any case, the fundamental worry that, IVK Company ought to consider, is the general security strategy with the goal that the delicate information can't get uncovered or captured by the outer assailant. Aside from the general protection arrangement certain extra security measures are likewise required to be considered by the IVK business association. In view of the sort and size of business, the time and endeavors on the data innovation is should have been given by the improvement authority. In the event that the business is little, at that point lesser time and exertion is will be sufficient however is the task size is bigger at that point, higher exertion and time will be required (Klettner, Clarke Boersma, 2014). Innovation diminishes the degree of human endeavors and times of execution and yet the odds of mistake and dangers additionally increments quickly. Security is one of the significant concerns which need greater expense. On the off chance that we make a portion of these extra changes in the framework, at that point the whole business procedure will turn out to be increasingly useful and proficient than the conventional one. The three inquiries raised by Bernie Rubens with respect to the blogging issues are required to be created for increasing business benefits. Initially the general strategy executed by the organization about their blogging ought to be improved. The private and touchy data of the IVK representatives ought to be made sure about from the outer assailants. Distinctive degree of data revelation will assist the representatives with specifying the exact organization situation that ought to be thought of (Gurdjian, Halbeisen Lane, 2014). In conclusion the individual who will uncover the secret data must be rebuffed. For the IVK business associations these are required to be the general security approach with respect to blogging. It will assist with keeping up the security of the touchy information of the business association. What's more, the IVK Company should actualize certain advances that will assist with recognizing the procedure of the developing advances. Aside from this, it will likewise assist with dissecting the better and more terrible effect of rising innovations in the business associations. So as to examine the positive and negative effect of these innovations, the business association ought to investigate and look for the IT rising innovation regarding an extraordinary gathering of occasionally investigated IT developing advancements (Strand, 2014). The recently framed gathering ought to occasionally explore the discoveries that are creating from the exploration work. The examination work ought to be led under the direction of various research establishment and different organizations. The direction will help the business associations to see how the developing innovations can be effectively used to increase upper hands. The uniquely evolved gathering will assist with building up a conversat ion discussion rather official meeting, where the workers will don't hesitate to impart their perspectives to each other (Chuang, Jackson Jiang, 2016). The best or most appropriate view will be chosen from the arrangement of perspectives conveyed by various representatives. The business chief and the specialty units settle on the choice about which devices and frameworks they ought to gain for the general business advancement. On the off chance that the equipment and programming are not upheld by the IT associations, at that point, because of off base choice on buy significant specialized hazard may emerge. So as to oversee and deal with the recently bought programming and equipment gadgets the workers are required to adapt productively about the framework. For this extra preparing and advancement programs additional cost will be distributed. Three distinct procedures that are proposed by IVK are programming as a help, administration situated design and administration level understanding. Among three of these proposed arrangements the most reasonable one for IVK is the administration level understanding (Roh, Hong Min, 2014). The product and equipment those are bought by the association to serve the application appropriate permit is required. The administration level understanding will assist with conveying the ideal application. In the earlier days the IVK Company was utilizing the results of Microsoft. Anyway this turned into a significant issue when the organization begin chipping away at UNIX based stage. So as to convey the normal results and to fill the needs of UNIX based stage every single time the organization needs to make a scaffold like association rater application between the current foundation of the organization (Grant, 2016). At that point according to the changing prerequisite the IT advancement group needs to adjust the application. In a large portion of the cases it has been discovered that the undertaking supervisory crew neglects to consider the adjusted crossing over application in the ventures. So as to fill the need of the organization the representatives are required to invest extra time and amounts of energy and furthermore need to reschedule the venture plan. Therefore the all out overhead likewise gets increments. The business unwavering quality, adaptability and the productivity will be naturally influenced rather gotten constrained as the business director and different staffs buy distinctive IT foundation of different organizations. The business capacity of the business associations will likewise be influenced because of the adjustment of assortment upper hands (Tir Singh, 2013). The IT foundation of IVK and its business activity will turn out to be especially hard to oversee if the organization neglects to embrace the normalized authoritative approach and practices. Because of absence of legitimate administration the general business process sensibility will be additionally gotten mind boggling than the conventional frameworks. So as to deal with the mind boggling IT foundation, various assets are should have been overseen well. Because of absence of the board rehearses the organization neglected to adjust the dynamic market changes (Klettner, Clarke Boersma, 2014). The organization will n eglect to respond every now and again over its rivals. So as to adjust the powerfully changed authoritative settings I feel that Kids Toolkit approach is one of the first applications. The advances utilized in the administration forms get examinations after the adjustment of the fundamental toolboxs. Along these lines, the changing hierarchical settings help to decide the predefined applications and restrictive circumstance. The necessary changes that are should have been adjusted by the business associations must consider the terns of state of the IT divisions of the ventures (Omar, Leach March, 2014). Contingent on the predefined circumstance the IT key methodologies ought to be attempted. So as to accomplish the pre decided objective of the business associations the IT divisions ought to distinguish the proper IT framework. References Chuang, C. H., Jackson, S. E., Jiang, Y. (2016). But it soon gathered momentum as publicity increased: Subject: Floor in Popular Science? Hi â€" I’m an editor at Popular Science and I’m interested in maybe running something on your DDF. Just wondering what the current status of it is? The floor still up and operational? Any new versions in the works? Thanks, -Mike Haney ~~~~~~~~~ Mike Haney Senior Editor Popular Science It GREW AND GREW and started taking over the lives of its founders!! Here is a quote from an exclusive AIM interview with one of its founders: [01:59] Mike Mike Mike: as we made more money we were able to have more components of the floor professionally manufactured, up to the point where now we only sell assembled equipment, and once we make money from selling the assembled boards and cables well use that money to develop an enclosure for them, etc ,etc I dont know what that means but I do know that their first year they made a total of over $50,000 dollars. They were able to get a whole underground community going of disco dance floor (-table, -wall, -bar) builders from all around the world who shared tips and ideas with each other. The link to an incomplete list of builders is here. Here are a few pictures I took for their dance floor kits and components (you can see most of these on the webpage as well): Dropout Design then expanded. Hired a couple of new members and started working on side projects. One of which is the Conways Game of Life played by LEDs. This is what it looks like on the wall of the First East Walcott Lounge: Make magazine got hold of this idea and is now selling their Life Board kits. I hear they also do some consulting (?). The Goals of Sentencing in the Criminal Justice System

The Goals of Sentencing in the Criminal Justice System By: Brian Ouellette Criminal Justice CCJ 1020 Mr. Leonardo Cadogan Abstract In the United States there is no standard when it comes to punishment and sentencing. This area of the criminal justice system is in a constant state of change. Sentencing practices and goals are always being closely examined. From getting tough on crime to more rehabilitative approaches, the views and goals of sentencing are always being corrected. Since time began, there was crime and with crime came the need to punish criminals. How criminals were punished and the methods behind the punishment changed throughout the times. Standards of†¦show more content†¦Those who give little credit to incapacitation could claim this to be mere coincidence, while those who support it say the crime reducing effect of incapacitation takes time. Rehabilitation assumes criminal behavior can be improved with non-punitive methods. Rehabilitation, although non-punitive, usually occurs along side punishment. For instance an incarcerated person may be given many rehabilitative options. Mental health programming, substance abuse counseling and even education programming exist in modern day correctional facilities. A judge may sentence someone to attend rehabilitative programming as a part of probation or it may be included as a stipulation in a plea agreement. At the core of rehabilitation is the thought that a criminal is flawed, often thro ugh no fault of their own. Poverty, mental health issues, or childhood trauma may all contribute to a criminal life and rehabilitation attempts to aid in a sort of recovery. If a person is cured of their issues, perhaps they will not fall back into their previous pattern. (Siegel Senna, 2005). Similar to rehabilitation is the idea of restoration. While rehabilitation is through non-punitive means, restoration is the idea that punishment helps to promote a moral sense. This theory believes the shame associated with punishment may cause a criminal to see the error of their ways. Motivation and Leadership in Social Work Management

Motivation and leadership are very important components in social work management. Good managers should be aware not only of practical facets of that but also have a theoretical bases. Essay about Elie Wiesels Night - 881 Words

The tragedies of the holocaust forever altered history. One of the most detailed accounts of the horrific events from the Nazi regime comes from Elie Wiesel’s Night. He describes his traumatic experiences in German concentration camps, mainly Buchenwald, and engages his readers from a victim’s point of view. He bravely shares the grotesque visions that are permanently ingrained in his mind. His autobiography gives readers vivid, unforgettable, and shocking images of the past. It is beneficial that Wiesel published this, if he had not the world might not have known the extent of the Nazis reign. He exposes the cruelty of man, and the misuse of power. Some even considered them lucky to be hung, that they no longer had t o endure the suffering. The most significant hanging involved a young child who was a servant to the SS; he was beloved among other prisoners. The death of the boy was the breaking point of Wiesel’s internal conflict with his faith in God. Before experiencing the atrocious events of the holocaust Elie Wiesel was completely devoted to his religion and to God. As a young boy he would engulf himself in religious books and spend many hours at temple. His faith slowly dwindles during his hard times in the concentration camps. It is difficult to put all faith in God when experiencing something as tragic as the holocaust; it was easier to just give up hope. Faith served as his impetus, but not for long. †Ive got more faith in Hitler than in anyone else. Hes the only one whos kept his promises, all his promises, to the Jewish people† (Night Quotes). Compressed Work Week Free Essays

Compressed work week is an alternative work arrangement where a standard workweek is reduced to fewer than five days, and employees make up the full number of hours per-week by working longer hours. The most common option in a compressed workweek is working four 10-hour days. Some organizations have been organized in measuring outcomes and perceptions amongst stakeholders, while other organizations are pleased to move to a compressed work schedule simply because management believes the employees are satisfied. We will write a custom essay sample on Compressed Work Week or any similar topic only for you Order Now There are even organizations that are going back to a traditional work schedule after having implemented a compressed work schedule, due to lack of structure. Organizations today are being challenged with a variety of new obstacles. This is due to the results of much social, political, and economic confusion in the world today. These changes can have a huge impact on organizational behavior, such as today’s global context in organizations. Global economy, in which businesses of different nations and cultures operate, come together to conduct business. As a result of the change in the global economy there is a drastic increase in competition for consumers. Companies have had to make structural and behavioral changes just to stay afloat. Organizational structure, as we all know, is the relationship of responsibility and authority between groups, as well as individuals and the organization. The better the company knows their organizational structure the more effectively they can interact with it and know what is best for the organization. In the 1940s, social psychologist Kurt Lewin developed a simple three step model as a way of looking at change that has helped many organizational leaders manage resistance to change. The three steps that were developed by Kurt Lewin were: (1) Unfreezing (2) Moving (3) Refreezing. The first step helps identify what needs unfreezing; what significant event(s) occurred to make people most affected. Next, active participation by the affected parties in the change process is most effective and important for communication. It helps implement change and barriers that affect change. This helps the movement step in order to analyze the results of the new system. The final step is the refreezing step which puts the new system into place, with backup from the analyze data. If the analyzed data is tested, debugged, and efficient then the new system is a go, but if there are flaws then maybe the beginning obstacle just needed tweaking, but not changing the system entirely. According to Lewin’s force field analysis, â€Å"a person’s behavior is the result of two opposing forces: the force that maintains the status quo (staying the same) and the force that pushes for change. When the two opposing forces are equal, the current behavior is sustained, creating an equilibrium† (Cronshaw, 2008). â€Å"While Lewin’s change model does not spell out in detail what change agents need to do to effect change, it does illuminate with remarkable clarity the major steps that each such effort must follow to be successful. As such, it is a powerful tool that deserves a place in the toolbox of every would-be change enabler† (Cronshaw, 2008). As with any change within a company, there are always weighted pros and cons. Even though the advantages out way the disadvantages on this particular concept, a big disadvantage to look at would be the marketing aspect of the company. â€Å"Even though the compressed work week would provide job satisfaction for employees, what does it do to the customers† (Rotenberg, 1977). Management personnel would have to staff the office on the fifth day to maintain communications with customers, which would make for management personnel to come in and supervise. This disadvantage would leave fewer days to provide service to customers, which would make them irritated and seek other companies. If your company is working a compressed work week and other business are not, then how can businesses work together if some operate a 9-5 business week? As much as this compressed work week sounds appealing, take a look at the working families and their struggles. â€Å"Their stress levels are higher, especially for mothers because they are the ones doing most of the cooking and child care. Longer days at the office can lead to a more stressed life for women due to the demand of responsibilities at home† (Carey, 1997). When both working spouses come home for a longer day at work, due to compressed work week, they are tired and only have time for dinner, shower, and bed. There are normally few hours left in the day to do odds and ends around the house or to spend time with their children going over their day; the more that chores that are â€Å"put off† the more stressed parents get. Another disadvantage to the seemingly appealing work week is the lack of actual work. â€Å"Some workers on extended work days may pace themselves differently than workers on traditional shifts. Other employees may slow down at the end of a day as fatigue sets in† (Humphrey, 2012). This could also mean more break times or even longer breaks, which could mean less work is actually being down in a week when compared to a traditional work week. Something else to think about would be the holiday and vacation hours. Employers typically pay holiday reimbursement as eight hours, requiring employees on extended work days to use their vacation pay to compensate. Some employees become unhappy when forced to use their vacation in this manner† (Humphrey, 2012). As organizations begin to find themselves having to deal with more complex environments, change methodologies that focus on the problem, such as Kurt Lewin’s three step method, will help put in perspective the ramifica tions of change. Is it okay to put a few employees concerns at heart, but not look at the other half of the employees concern? Is it better to look at a different alternative to work schedules? What will benefit the company’s global aspect, customer service aspect, and employee aspect. What measures will be sufficient enough to bring higher performance, efficient marketing and employee satisfaction? All these questions and the help of Kurt Kewin’s method will help each organization make an educated judgment about their company. How to cite Compressed Work Week, Papers

Gateway to heaven Ouch, je je Im telling mamma! I yelled in agony, rubbing the imprint her book left on my head Essay Gateway to heaven Ouch, je je Iquot;m telling mamma! I yelled in agony, rubbing the imprint her book left on my head. No youquot;re not, she wonquot;t believe you; Iquot;m older, snickered my sister, and with that she ran up the crowded walkway; which in the morning hour, looked much like a stampede of bulls. As I walked toward school, I listened to the distinctive chatter of my fellow civilians, smelled the exhaust fume filled air and listened to the bells and whistles of another pristine day. This was Beijing, China on another busy workday, no time to talk, money is to be made, there is always somewhere to go and some place to be. It seems that this is the ideology of all Chinese; as I looked ahead, all I can see is a sea of black hair moving from side to side, up and down, in unison, everyone trying desperately not to drown. I tread toward the edge of the curb and am taken into a world of raging machinequot;s, streetcars, bicycles, and automobiles, racing down the street carrying even more people to some important place. I see a void in the racetrack and take a chance to run across the street to school. I am in my last year at Mao Tse-Dung Middle School, it is full of long maintained rivalries between its top students, all of us are supposed to be the best, we are to make our families proud in any way possible and build a prosperous future; because our parents and previous ancestors worked so hard so that we could have this exclusive chance. I have always been an exceptional student, always attending the after school classes and always being at the top of my class in all the major subject categories. After the examination, when my fellow students and I had swarmed the student standings list, I always would read my name in the top three; endlessly hearing criticism from my competitors. Mei Ling, first in Maths, second in Science and first in technological studies, it is because of her guanxi! Amused, I would simply reply, Haha, my guanxi had nothing to do with my success, maybe you should all try studying; maybe one day I might have some real competition! Guanxi is something that I definitely have, my father is a senior member of the Chinese Communist Party, and he more or less can quot;make things happen for my sister and I. Next year, because of this, she was going to study in the United States, she does not have to go through all of the unnecessary obstacles that the government makes all university students go through; sometimes living with six per dorm room. She does not have to spend 5 years slaving away at a substandard job provided by the government, whose main emphasis of which is on the working class and how much money they can make for the economy to lift China into the Modern Western World. Mei Ling, what are you doing? yelled my best pong yo I looked up in shock; I hadnt realized that I was standing in front of my locker staring at it all this time. Umm, nothing I answered in a daze. Well anyway, did you hear about Hu Yao bang? What about him? You mean, you dont know? No, just tell me! Well, he died of a heart attack today. I froze: this man was one of my sisters heros, he was an actual respectable Chinese dignitary, and he understood Chinas need for change. I stumbled and replied, Oh rea lly? It must be all over the news, Ching Ching, I will probably hear about it later. With that, I slouched away looking like a wilted plant in the desert on a hot summer day. Class seemed to have dragged on for hours and hours, each teacherquot;s lecture droned on and on and I could not concentrate. I felt as though I were a rice farmer, counting every grain of rice I had harvested. I could only think about what my sister would do. She is the wild one of my family, the more American one. She dresses in their fashions, she talks in their ways and she even listens to their music. She is a free spirit, if anything. She has her own opinions and she chooses to voice them, she is not a normal Chinese. She disobeys nearly all of our fathers wishes, she does not seem to care that Father has the last word for everything, and everything is his decision. We, mamma, je je and I must do everything in our power to please him because this is the way it is. In all Chinese families, the father or the man is the most powerful figure, he is everything to the family; everyone else, especially females, are there to serve him, we are there to perform his wishes and to complete his commands. Women are meant to be more of a convenience than a burden. I can remember a time when je je was 15 and I was 11, Baba told her she couldnt go to a local play put on by a local drama group because one of the members was against the CCP and Baba would not have his daughter seeing such a biased made mockery of so-called artwork. On my way home back into the jungle of the streets of Beijing, the sounds I heard earlier in the day were still there to accompany me on my adventure. The signs of mourning were already apparent with store owners burning heavens bank notes and other necessities the dead may need in their afterlife, the smell of incense welcomed me as I explored the different preparations. They say that if a person is not prepared for and cared for in their burial, they will haunt the living that were supposed to take care of them. My guess is that no one wants to be haunted by Hu Yao bang, so this is why they are mourning so openly. As I continued my stroll through the somber atmosphere, I begin to notice all the different ways people mourn, the Buddhist, the Confucius, the Taoist all of them paid their respects to Hu Yao bang; I could imagine that the parades would begin soon, these mourning for Hu Yao bangs life. I recalled his background, Hu Yao bang came from a family that had a strong commitment to the CCP, he joined the Red army, and by 19 he was a full CCP member. He took apprenticeship under Deng Xiao ping, Chinas leader at that time, Hu Yao bang was one of the front contenders for the Red Armyquot;s leadership, but because of his support for the students protesting for a better educational system and increased democracy he was condemned and spent most of his latter life reading, practicing calligraphy, and taking long walks. I almost walked past my flat; it looked different today, less cheerful. We were lucky to live in a building with more class than many others; no rats, and we had wood floors instead of concrete. Walking on the path towards the gray concrete door, I remembered the night when I was in the hallway and je je was sneaking into the house from one of her study groups, she pulled me outside and made me sit with her on the large concrete steps that lead to the door. This is when she said something that I didnt know the meaning of at the time, in a hesitant matter she said, No matter what anyone tells you, I am your je je and I will always be. I thought she was crazy, maybe the bitter cold of that February night had gotten to her, or maybe it was fumes vacating the local tannery that we stared at from across the street. This night was the first time I had noticed the sparkle in her eyes, while she lectured me on how I should not be like her. At that moment she was no longer just my sister but she was almost like a Shinto goddess to me, a higher being; she was not part of old Chinas ways as Baba said. She did not believe in our traditions, she was a girl, in China with her own political views, a complete oxymoron in these days. Je je was the perfect representation of a new democratic China, one with increased rights for all, freedom of expression and as je je would say with a grin American boys! My sister has a massive influence on my life, her kindred spirit brings color to my black and white life, I admire and love her; I sometimes feel as though I am the older sister, obligated to give her advice on whats right and wrong and being required to cover for her when she doesnt take my advice; which was usually a good part of the time. Though I can talk the world of my je je, she does have her faults, t he biggest one being that she is an active member of the underground movement at Bei Da. This is her biggest secret, the one could break our family, and so it is essential for me to keep this one from my Mamma and Baba. Oedipus Rex Argumentative EssayI sat, stunned, what had just happened? Later in my life I found out that Baba and je je were having many conflicts of interest. Almost on a daily basis, this one was the last one, the last time I would ever see my whole family together. I ran to my room, to find my sister throwing clothes into a pillowcase. J e je, what are you doing? I knew exactly what she was doing. I am leaving for a little while. She said Cooley Where are you going? She paused, and looked hesitant than said I am going underground with the movement, there is going to be a protest tonight. My eyes welled up with tears, No, je je dont go, dont leave me! Its too dangerous, Baba didnt mean it! I pleaded, but she only half smiled and said, Remember what I told you, and remember why I am doing this, she walked out of my room, and out of my life. I could not sleep that night, I didnt know what my je je was talking about all; I knew that the underground movement was made of primarily of young students calling for a change in Chinas education system. Who knew what all these young adults were going to do, I didnt care, and all I wanted was for my je je to be safe. The next day I woke up in a daze, the house was calm like just after a storm. Mamma kept to her sewing while Baba went about on his way, reading his paper and drinking cha. I said nothing to them and I walked out of the flat and started on my way to school. I began to think of about a way I could contact my sister, just to keep in touch; so Id know she was okay. I contemplated which one of je jes friends would know her location for the whole day while my teachers lectured us. The talk of the school today was the students of Ren Da and Bei Da and their protest at Tiananmen Square. It was all over the news Today, at Tiananmen Square, thousands of students peacefully protest Chinas education system and call for the reformation of Chinas government as they chant the internationale. Other stations, such as the one run by the CCP reported Today at Tiananmen square, reckless students protest Chinese officials and demand for change. Two different views, who knew what was going on, all I wanted to know was Jing Yees status, was she was alive or dead? On my way home, as I walked I passed by Mr. Lees fish market and it dawned on me, Jing Yees bai friend worked for Mr. Lee! I quickly ran inside and saw him cutting away at the fish. My nose was not use to the smell of raw fish and Jeff could tell, Smell like roses dont they Mei Ling? I smiled before I came out and said, Where is Jing Yee? She ran away from home yesterday. Jeff looked up and then looked back down, saying, Well, you know where she is dont you? I definitely knew, but wanted confirmation Is she at ÃÆ' ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ is she at Tiananmen? Yes, she is, and she is being so stubborn. He stopped cutting, then motioned me to the side of the counter Im so worried about her, she is hunger striking and, I have heard rumors that the government will not tolerate this protest. My heart broke, why was she doing this, I still could not understand. I touched Jeff on the shoulder Dont worry, she will be fine I am sure, can you just tell her that I love her and just keep me updated on her. I will Mei Ling, Ill t ell her. After that day, I visited Jeff often at the fish market and talked about je je and how she was doing. Shes doing fine. Id always hear. Just another one of the protestors showing the officials that they could not be pushed around. On the news and in the newspapers the stories were constantly conflicting, some said that the students demands for change were too unrealistic and others said the government was listening and were going to comply with the students wishes. The only reliable source of information for me was Jeff, we went on for months and months, I started to write je je letters. She would write me back with information on how things were going. She said the effort was becoming larger, and more people were joining. More and more progress was being made, until the day it happened; the day of the massacre. It was June 4th 1989, 2 days after my birthday, one of Chinas darkest days in history. The Chinese Communist Party was getting fed up with the protestors. Most of them pledged allegiance to the cause for further democracy and freedom and were willing to die for it. At 9 am, a warm breeze swept through Tiananmen Square, hundreds of thousands of protestors awaited their demise, but they would not go without a fight. Deng Xiao Ping was finally fed up and ordered a full military attack on all of the protestors, the students were brutally beaten to death, shot beyond submission and were ran over by tanks. The whole world was watching as China crushed its children. It would not be until one week after the massacre that I would find out about Jing Yee. It was hot that day and the smell of the fish was intoxicating, but I would go through anything to find out about the well being of my sister. As I walked into the store I could tell by Jeffs red swollen eyes that the outlook was not good. As my heart ruptured into pieces, my eyes began to stream out tears of anger against the government; I walked slowly to Jeff and sat down beside him on a stack of rice bags and cried and cried. I did not want to stay too long and I wanted to be alone in my state of sadness. When I left, Jeff told me, Look under Jing Yees mattress When I got home, I went straight to the kitchen and told my parents the news. Mamma went into loud bawls of agony and shed tears of love for her lost daughter. As for Baba, he kept a stiff upper lip and put on his typical Chinese father exterior, continuing to read his paper; according to him, he only had one daughter. I locked myself into my room for days crying and contemplating how I would go on with my life. One night as I slept, I remembered what Jeff had told me and I shot up out of my bed. I went to my je jes dusty side of the room. I looked under her mattress and found the book that she gave to me the day that she walked out of my life. I picked it up, it was a book of poetry and Je je had marked one in particular and left a note, I read Bye now my mei mei, I am gone and you are probably wondering why, read these and you will find the key to our countryquot;s pain. I sat on her bed and opened up the marked poem and read it. The Internationale Arise ye workers from your slumbers Arise ye prisoners of want For reason in revolt now thunders And at last ends the age of cant. Away with all your superstitions Servile masses arise, arise Wequot;ll change henceforth the old tradition And spurn the dust to win the prize. So comrades, come rally And the last fight let us face The Internationale unites the human race. So comrades, come rally And the last fight let us face The Internationale unites the human race. No more deluded by reaction On tyrants only wequot;ll make war The soldiers too will take strike action Theyquot;ll break ranks and fight no more And if those cannibals keep trying To sacrifice us to their pride They soon shall hear the bullets flying Wequot;ll shoot the generals on our own side. No saviour from on high delivers No faith have we in prince or peer Our own right hand the chains must shiver Chains of hatred, greed and fear Equot;er the thieves will out with their booty And give to all a happier lot. Each at the forge must do their duty And wequot;ll strike while the iron is hot. I cried, this is what they were fighting for; they were fighting so that we could have a future, so that we would be able to read beautiful literature such as this and have a voice in our own destinies.

LABOR IN AMERICA Essays (2106 words) - Labour Relations, Trade Union

LABOR IN AMERICA By Ira Peck (Scholastic Inc.) The Industrial Revolution was dawning in the United States. At Lowell, Massachusetts, the construction of a big cotton mill began in 1821. It was the first of several that would be built there in the next 10 years. The machinery to spin and weave cotton into cloth would be driven by water power. All that the factory owners needed was a dependable supply of labor to tend the machines. As most jobs in cotton factories required neither great strength nor special skills, the owners thought women could do the work as well as or better than men. In addition, they were more compliant. The New England region was home to many young, single farm girls who might be recruited. But would stern New England farmers allow their daughters to work in factories? The great majority of them would not. They believed that sooner or later factory workers would be exploited and would sink into hopeless poverty. Economic laws would force them to work harder and harder for less and less pay. THE LOWELL EXPERIMENT How, then, were the factory owners able to recruit farm girls as laborers? They did it by building decent houses in which the girls could live. These houses were supervised by older women who made sure that the girls lived by strict moral standards. The girls were encouraged to go to church, to read, to write and to attend lectures. They saved part of their earnings to help their families at home or to use when they got married. The young factory workers did not earn high wages; the average pay was about $3.50 a week. But in those times, a half-dozen eggs cost five cents and a whole chicken cost 15 cents. The hours worked in the factories were long. Generally, the girls worked 11 to 13 hours a day, six days a week. But most people in the 1830s worked from dawn until dusk, and farm girls were used to getting up early and working until bedtime at nine o'clock. The factory owners at Lowell believed that machines would bring progress as well as profit. Workers and capitalists would both benefit from the wealth created by mass production. For a while, the factory system at Lowell worked very well. The population of the town grew from 200 in 1820 to 30,000 in 1845. But conditions in Lowell's factories had already started to change. Faced with growing competition, factory owners began to decrease wages in order to lower the cost--and the price--of finished products. They increased the number of machines that each girl had to operate. In addition, they began to overcrowd the houses in which the girls lived. Sometimes eight girls had to share one room. In 1836, 1,500 factory girls went on strike to protest wage cuts. (The girls called their action a turn out.) But it was useless. Desperately poor immigrants were beginning to arrive in the United States from Europe. To earn a living, they were willing to accept low wages and poor working conditions. Before long, immigrant women replaced the Yankee (American) farm girls. To many people, it was apparent that justice for wage earners would not come easily. Labor in America faced a long, uphill struggle to win fair treatment. In that struggle, more and more workers would turn to labor unions to help their cause. They would endure violence, cruelty and bitter defeats. But eventually they would achieve a standard of living unknown to workers at any other time in history. GROWTH OF THE FACTORY In colonial America, most manufacturing was done by hand in the home. Some was done in workshops attached to the home. As towns grew into cities, the demand for manufactured goods increased. Some workshop owners began hiring helpers to increase production. Relations between the employer and helper were generally harmonious. They worked side by side, had the same interests and held similar political views. The factory system that began around 1800 brought great changes. The employer no longer worked beside his employees. He became an executive and a merchant who rarely saw his workers. He was concerned less with their welfare than with the cost of their labor. Many workers were angry about the changes brought by the factory system. In the past, they had taken great pride in their handicraft skills; now machines did practically all the work, and they were reduced to the status of common laborers. In bad times they could lose their jobs. Then they might be replaced by workers who

buy custom Role of Media in Delivering News to the Public essay

buy custom Role of Media in Delivering News to the Public essay Todays world is heavily influenced by money. Maximizing profits and gains is more often than not considered more important than values and public interest. A local news station is mostly driven by bigger ratings rather than the story that demonstrates good moral judgment. It is the aspiration of every local station to expand nationally and even internationally. The news of the death of a major celebrity is usually viewed by many as captivating and engaging. The intricate details of this kind of news would interest many and so most TV stations would get to the specifics and make it the lead story. This was seen in the case of the death of Michael Jackson who was a major music icon. Such news as the death of a major celebrity cannot be overshadowed by the closing of city parks for three days a week. Therefore, as a News Director I would put the death of the celebritys death as the lead story. This would be the attention grabbing news which would bring in more ratings which translates t o more money. This approach is clearly the more realistic one, since in theory it would be better to headline the news that affects the public most, which in this case would be the park story. This example clearly illustrates that the process of news delivery is not as easy as it seems, it also brings to the fore the issue of the part played by the media in conveying news to the general public. Role of Media in Delivering News to the Public Media has many roles to play in society; the main one being the conveyance of precise and trustworthy news which is not subjective. The pblic largely depends on the media to say the truth on matters that affect them. This means that it is not the role of the media to bring unimportant and exaggerated news to the public. When news is broadcasted instantly or immediately to the audiences, there is the advantage that the public is quickly informed of the crucial issues quickly. This means that things are done based on real time news events. The downside of this is that it develops an impatient culture where people expect things to be done now rather than later. No one would want to wait to receive the latest news from news agencies when they could access it through their cell phones on social media sites or through news feeds on the internet. Every organization is expected to outline its corporate social responsibility and the media is not an exception to this norm. Theoretically the media is supposed to enlighten the public on major issues going on around the world without being biased. This means that they are charged with the responsibility of informing the public of the latest happenings objectively. The media ought to also provide solutions through interviews with experts on social, political, economic and any other matter. The media also has the responsibility of campaigning against social vices, glorifying good behavior and promoting peace in cases of war or unrest. It may seem that the online world has no ethical considerations but in actual sense it does, though most people may not adhere to them. For example intellectual property is treated as real property and the same respect is accorded to them. This meaans that some people refrain from such things as pirating on an ethical basis. There is also a legal aspect in the online world in that there are laws against cyber crime for example, hacking, which could cause serious problems especially for government agencies and financial institutions. If one does not adhere to these considerations, one could face jail time. It is also important to comply with the ethical considerations to ensure that someone elses hard work does not go to waste, especially in the case of intellectual property. There is a myriad of methods to deliver information to audiences in this era, some of which include TV and radio stations, websites, social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin, flyers, e-mails among others. The more modern ways of information delivery for example social media sites, ensures that even those who do not have time to listen to news through radio or TV can do it using their cell phones. Modern means of information delivery ensure that news from all over the world is accessed and instantly relayed. Conclusion The last century has seen tremendous changes in the media. More modern forms of news delivery have come up including the internet, television and radio which did not exist in the last century. Due to use of the latest technology, more and more people can access news faster and easier. There is also more global news. The more the media is growing, the bigger its responsibility to the public becomes. This means the media ought to painstakingly choose the right news at the right time for its audiences.
